Definition of voice: 


 It is the form of verb which is used to say what the subject does or what happens to the subject.  

It has two kinds.


(1) Active voice


(2) Passive voice



Active voice: 


Definition: 

 

A verb in the active voice form shows that the person or thing perform some action or the subject is active.

Moreover Active voice describes a sentence where subject performs the some Action.


Examples:


➡ I have bought a book.

➡ She write a letter.

➡ He will not speak this. 


Passive voice: 


Definition: 


A verb in the passive voice shows that the some action is done to the person or thing denoted by the subject. 

In active voice sentences ,the subject is no longer active.


Example: 


➡A book has been bought by me.

➡A is written by her.

➡This will not be spoken by him.


Rules:::


When we change active voice into passive voice . We made following changes. 


(1) The Subject of a active voice changes into object.


(2)  " by " is used before object . 


(3) Third (3rd) form of the verb is used in passive voice . 


Let's study the Active and passive voice according to the tenses. 



 ⚡Present .


♦Present indefinite tense. 


Active voice: :


Method: 


Subject + Verb (Ist form) + Object


➡She writes a letter.


Passive voice: :


Method: 


Object( subject  form) +helping verb( is.are.am)+ verb(3rd form) +by+subject (object form)


➡A letter is written by her



♦Present continuous tense. 


When an action is continued or ongoing in present time or at the time of speaking an action is in progress .


Active voice::


Method: 


Subject + helping verb(is.are.am)+ verb(first form with "ing") + object 


➡She is writing a letter.


Passive voice::


Method:


Object ( subject form) + helping verb(is.are.am)+ being+ verb(3rd form) +by+subject(object form) 


➡A letter is being written by her.



♦Present perfect tense.


When an actions is completed in past but the action which completed in short time before now  not a very long time before. 


Active voice::


Method: 



Subject + auxiliary verb( has. have) + verb( 3rd form) + object


➡ She has written a letter. 


Passive voice::


Method:


Object(subject form) + auxiliary verb( has/have+been) + verb(3rd form) +by+ subject ( object form) 


➡ A letter has been written by her.



⚡Past .


♦Past indefinite tense.


When an action is completed or happened in past then we use past indefinite .


Active voice::


Method:


Subject+verb(2nd form) + object 


➡She wrote a letter.



Passive voice: 


Method: 


Object( subject form) + auxiliary verb( was/were) + verb(3rd form) + by+ subject ( object form)


➡A letter was written by her.



♦Past continuous tense.



When an action was continued or ongoing in past and completed at some point in past .



Active voice::


Method: 


Subject+ auxiliary verb(was/were) + verb (first form+ing) + object 



➡She was writing a letter.



Passive voice::


Method: 


Object(subject form) + auxiliary verb(was/were+ being ) + verb(3rd form) + by+subject (object form) 


➡A letter was being written by her.




♦Past perfect tense.



It is used to express when an action is accurred  in past (long time ago) .



Active voice::



Method: 


Subject + had+ verb(3rd form) + object 


➡She had written a letter.



Passive voice::


Method: 


Object ( subject form) + had+ been+verb(3rd form) +by+subject (object form)  


➡A letter had been written by her.



⚡Future tense .



♦ Future indefinite tense.


It is used to express an action which is accur in future  or accur in after saying.


Active voice:



Method:


Subject+ will/shall+ verb ( Ist form) + object


➡She will write a letter .


Passive: 


Method: 


Object (subject form) + will/shall+be+ verb(3rd form) + by+ subject (object form)


➡ A letter will be written by her.



♦ Future continuous tense. 


It is used to express an action which is continued or ongoing in future.


Active voice:


Method:


Subject+ will/shall+ be+ verb(Ist form+ing) + object


➡She will be writing a letter.



Passive voice: 


Method : 


Object(subject form) + will/shall+be+being+verb(3rd form) + by+ subject (object form)


➡A letter will be being by her.



♦ Future perfect tense. 


When an action accur in future and thought to be completed in future .



Active voice:


Method: 


Subject+ will/shall+ have+verb(3rd form) + object 


➡She will have written a letter.



Passive:


Method:


Object(subject form) + will/shall+ have+been+ verb(3rd form) +by+subject (object form)


➡A letter will have been written by her.
