4 Types of Adjectives:

Adjectives are the words that describe the noun. Pronouns. 




Adjectives may be divided into different  Kinds: 


*Adjectives  of Quality
*Adjectives of Quantity
*Adjectives of Number
*Demonstrative Adjectives 
*Interrogative Adjectives

*Adjectives of Quality:


When an adjectives show the kind or Quality of a person or thing is called Adjectives of Quality.


e.g : He is an honest man .            ( honest )


   Shafia is very Intelligent girl.   ( Intelligent)



•  Adjectives of Quantity.


It tells that how much of a thing is meant; 

Adjectives of Quantity answer the question : ( How Much ) 


e.g: 


#I have no idea. 

#Jonny ate some rice.

#she did not eat any mango.



*Adjectives of Number.



It shows about the Numbers of persons or things or what order a person  or things stands. 


And it is used for answer the question..     


              ( How many)


E.g . . .  I have two hands. 


              There is no pencil  in your bag.

# Definite Adjectives Number.

# Indefinite Number Adjectives.

# Distributive Number Adjectives.

It denote an exact ( Cardinal) and ( Ordinal) number.


e.g:



One , Two , Three , Four .            (  Cardinals


First , Second , Third , Fourth.    ( Ordinals )

It do not denote exact number.


e.g


( any , Some , many , Several )

It refer to each one of a number.


e.g 


Every man was strong.


Each girl must take rest.


Every word is a true.



•  Demonstrative  Adjective.


It point out which person or thing is meant;

And it answer the question  ( Which) 


e.g 


That boy is lucky.


This dog is dangerous. 


These mangoes  are sour.



•  Interrogative Adjectives.


(What , Which and whose )  When these words are used with nouns to asks questions are called Interrogative  Adjectives.


e.g


Which ball is your's ?


What manner of man is he ?


Whose book is this ? 


* 3 Degrees of Adjectives:


    (  Comparison of Adjectives  )



Adjectives  change in forms to show comparison . they are called the 3 Degrees of Comparison۔  


( positive , comparitive ,superlative )



We take the word ( small ) as an example  to

 make degrees. 


(Positive )        (comparative )    (superlative)


    Small                smaller                smallest

•  Positive degree:


The positive Degree of an adjective is the adjective in its simple form. It is used to denote the mere existence  of some quality of what we speak about. 

It is used when no comparison  is made.



       e.g       ( young )



•  Comparative Degree:


The comparative Degree of an adjective

 denotes a higher degree of the quality than the positive, it is used to compare two things.


e.g  ( younger )


Jon is younger than Malik



•  Superlative Degree:


The superlative  Degree of an adjective denotes  the highest Degree of the quality and it is used to compare more than two things.


e.g  ( youngest )


Rehan is  the youngest  in the class.

(1) Most adjectives of one syllable , and some of more than one , form the comparative  degree by adding ( er ) and superlative  by adding  ( est ) to the positive . 



Exmple:   


              Tall              Taller           Tallest


(ii) when the positive ends in ( e ) , 

then  " r " and  " st " are added. 


  Example: 

                      Able           abler         ablest


(iii) If positive  ends in "y" , followed by a consonant  , then the " y " is changed into " i " before adding  " er " and  " est " 


Example:  

         healthy       healthier      healthiest 


(iv) When the positive is a word of one syllable and ends in a single consonant followed by a short vowel , the consonant  will be doubled before adding  " er "  and.  " est ".


Example: 


                    Thin         thinner        thinest 


(2) Adjectives of more than two syllables form the comparative  and superlative by adding  more and most before the positive. 


Example: 

   

 Beautiful  -more beautiful  -most beautiful 


(3) The comparative in " er " is not used when we compare two qualities in the same person or thing. 



(4) When two objects are compared with each other , than latter term of comparison must exclude the former :

The following  adjectives are compared irregularly , that is , their comparative and superlative are not formed from the positive.
